Does Your Breakdown Service provider
go that 'extra mile'?

Most Breakdown Service providers, if not all, will have a minimum level of standards which they want to achieve, and therefore it stands to reason they will have thousands of satisfied customers. However, there’s normally one company in every industry which goes that ‘extra mile’.

Maybe it’s reflected in the company’s ‘mission statement’, produced by the company owners for management and employees to follow, or maybe the it’s the personable qualities of the staff which set that company apart from the others.

Ask yourself ‘what sort of service do you expect’?

Does your chosen Breakdown Service Provider fall short of, meet or do better  than your expectations of a good service?  Does the company’s policies go the ‘extra mile’ or do they try to fleece you at every opportunity? In situations where you come into contact with them, are the staff/ employees of the company going that ‘extra mile’?

Let’s take two examples of ‘going the extra mile’ in relation to the Car Breakdown and Recovery Service available in the UK today.

This information comes directly from the ‘horse’s mouth’ (from a local recovery vehicle operator) and it’s certainly helpful to know when you’re just about to decide which Breakdown Cover service provider to choose.

Example One is with fuel contamination. This is when you put the wrong type of fuel into the tank.
If you happen to make this mistake, the best thing you can do is ‘not start the vehicle at all’. Obviously, if you start the vehicle before you realise what you’ve done, problems will occur pretty soon and you could be facing a hefty bill to correct them.

Now, what would you expect from a Breakdown Service provider in this situation?

Some will refuse and some will attend.  And of those who attend, you’ll be charged around £2.50 - £3.00 per mile for getting you to a garage. On what grounds you may ask?  On the grounds of ‘human error’!

Well, you’ll be pleased to know that with the company I represent, RAC Motoring Services, this is done ‘free of charge’.

Example Two is if you’re involved in an accident.  Again, RAC Motoring Services will attend road traffic accidents and recover your vehicle ’free of charge’.

You may not realise this but some companies will not even attend.  Check the small print.  And others, if they do attend, will charge around a minimum of £250 to recover the vehicle.

Unfortunately, these are two fairly regular occurrences, both of which require a certain flexibility on the part of your Breakdown Service Provider.  Will they come to your aid or not?  Well, simply looking for the least expensive provider will not answer that question.

However, it is possible to get the level of service you expect by talking to the right people, and by doing this, you’ll get the information you need in order to make an informed decision.
