Car Breakdown Cover: How technology can improve Response times to your emergency call!

In today’s quick-paced society, expectations are high in the Car Breakdown Cover business – people have come to expect a quick response from their breakdown company.  In fact, in this industry, the general public seem programmed to expect an quick response more so than any other industry.

But what type of response can you expect?  Well, most emergency calls to the RAC are answered within 12 seconds and the RAC uses digitised mapping in it’s advanced breakdown delivery service which enables them to find you as quickly as possible.

Using some of over 6,000 satellites orbiting the planet, iCAD (intelligent Computer Aided Dispatch) is called into action when a call is made to the RAC’s breakdown centre.  It then calculates your approximate position from your mobile phone signal. They can even locate you whether you know where you are or not!

Automatic Vehicle Location

In addition to this, all RAC’s patrol vans are fitted with a satellite location system which enables the breakdown centre (control) to send the most appropriate Rescue patrol to you, usually the closest one and via the quickest route, which means they’ll reach your location as quickly as possible.

At any time, control knows where the patrol vehicles is and can give you an update on the arrival time.  In a breakdown situation, using the latest technology isn’t just convenient, it’s essential.

A simple text message stating the approximate time of arrival of the Rescue vehicle can be given.  And this reassurance cannot be overstated.  Who wouldn’t appreciate this simple service?  Most would, and especially those in a vulnerable position, such as a lady alone at night or a family with children in the car.

Data Terminals

RAC’s patrol vans have onboard ‘data terminals’ which are constantly in touch with iCAD.  The mobile data terminals enable receipt of essential information and feedback, which ensures your car breakdown is dealt with as efficiently and effectively as possible.

It’s good to get a speedy response to your call for help and text messages to keep you updated. These are just two small things which go a huge way to making your car breakdown experience a little easier to handle.
